Greater yellowlegs and black bellied plovers are common migratory shorebirds where I live. We occasionally see the plovers in full breeding plumage but mostly we get immatures or birds switching into their more neutral winter plumage.

Where I live gulls are ubiquitous. Some people hate them because they are noisy and grabby but they sort of crack me up. I think they're pretty smart, actually and I can't help thinking that sometimes they know more than I do when I'm walking on the beach.
